Honk by George Styles and Anthony Drewe

Honk by George Styles and Anthony Drewe
Director: Cat Baxter. Nine Lives Productions and the Koorliny Arts Centre, Kwinana (WA). April 22 to May 1

This was the first outing of this bright family show in WA. It has a lovely story, some lovely numbers and a beautiful message and would be a fantastic production for school, youth and community groups.
While this show was well promoted in the Kwinana area, the matinee I saw was sadly under capacity, perhaps because it is not a familiar show, although I would have expected a good family and friends attendance from the 37 member cast.
The cast was energetic and breezy from the tiny-tots to the mature. Relative newcomer Scott Blanchford took the leading role in a fine effort. Memorable performances include Chantel Bell as mother duck Ida, Peter Knol as Drake and the beautifully elegant Kathy Doherty as Queenie.
Young performers to watch include Ashlea Tunbridge as the dynamic Bullfrog, Bailey Bridgman-Peters as Beaky, Tianna Burford’s well-delivered frog and the beautiful Phillipa Rippon as Penny.
Jessica Caley’s choreography nicely evoked the animal characters that performed each dance, and the cast executed the dances well.
Director Cat Baxter’s bright costume design was a blend of animal and human, while Mick Rippon’s set design had a lovely storybook feel.
Honk was a show that was great fun to watch and seemed to be a joy to perform.
