Audition Bootcamp with Queenie van de Zandt
More musical theatre shows featuring children than ever before are playing in Australia or coming soon, including Annie, Mary Poppins, Love Never Dies, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Addams Family.
But with thousands of amazing young performers out there vying for these leading roles, kids are looking for a way to get ahead.
Leading teacher of Audition Technique Queenie van de Zandt will run a one-week intensive Audtion Bootcamp in Sydney during January for children aged 7-15.
Students have landed roles in Love Never Dies, Mary Poppins and Annie after attending Queenie’s preparation workshops. Five of the 24 young girls in the upcoming production of Annie attended Queenie’s course.
Joining Queenie will be a great line-up of Australian Musical Theatre talent:
- Musical Director - Max Lambert (How to Train Your Dragon, Fame, King Kong, Hairspray)
- Actor – Mitchell Butel – (Avenue Q)
- Director –Darren Yapp(Mamma Mia, Miss Saigon)
- Actor/Choreographer - Chloe Dallimore (Annie, The Producers)
- Actor/Choreographer –Jack Chambers(Hairspray, 2008 Winner - So You Think You Can Dance)
- Actor - Josh Quong-Tart – (“Milko” on Home and Away)
- Dancer/Singer – Wayne Scott-Kermond (Oliver, Singing in the Rain)
Queenie believes the students will gain a lot from this chance to work with such renowned artists. “If you’re wanting to do musical theatre, these are the people to learn from,” Queenie said. “They actually perform in and cast the biggest musicals in the country and the knowledge they pass on to the students is absolutely invaluable.”
Musical Director Max Lambert will be coming in to teach at the course, taking a break from rehearsals of the new arena production of How to Train Your Dragon. He has previously taught at Queenie’s adult courses. “Many auditionees long for some feedback after their audition,” he said. “This almost never happens….Industry professionals can offer insights and shortcuts that sometimes mean the difference between landing a role and working tables.”
