“Leapin' Lizards!” SQUIDS Are Doing Annie

SQUIDS Theatricals (QLD) will stage well-loved family musical Annie at the Redcliffe Cultural Centre from Thursday 19th -28th September, 2013.

Inspired by the famous comic strip Little Orphan Annie which first ran in the New York News in 1924, Annie made its Broadway debut in April 1977 and played 2,377 performances before closing in 1983. This heart-warming musical is the rags-to-riches story of young Annie's journey from the hard-knock New York orphanage to the luxurious home of billionaire businessman Oliver Warbucks.

"I feel it is very important for children to receive exposure to the arts. This is why it is so important for us to produce a big family show during the school holidays," says SQUIDS President & Producer Nathaniel Currie. “Annie will be a chance for all generations to spend time together at the theatre. Not only does this time help strengthen the family bond; it helps to nurture a love of live theatre in the youngest of audience members. Knowing that these children will grow up to be avid theatregoers assures me that the sun will truly come out tomorrow!"

The role of Annie will be shared between Emily Steel & Isobel Salisbury along with a double cast of orphan girls. Miss Hannigan will be played by Deanne Scanlan co-founder of SQUIDS & seamstress extraordinaire. The cast will also feature Nathaniel Currie as Oliver Warbucks,Donna Woollard as Grace Farrell, Matthew Frenchas Rooster, Ashley Hill-Webber as Lily St Regis, Jason Kirby as F.D.R., and of course Belle as Sandy, with a cast of over 60 including singers, dancers, aerial acrobats, live band ‘Hot Mush’ and a dog.

Directed by Michelle Currie and Assistant Director Sharon Walkerden, the choreography has been created by Reuben Limmer in collaboration with MAD - Movement And Dance SQUIDS” affiliated dance school.  The creative team also includes Nathaniel Currie - Producer, Damien Foat - head tech, lighting & website designer and Mike Kilfoy – Sound tech.
