42nd Street: CLOC Celebrates 100 shows and 50 years

42nd Street: CLOC Celebrates 100 shows and 50 years

2014 will be a very special year for Melbourne’s CLOC Musical Theatre, as the company prepares to launch its 100th production in its 50th year.

For old friends Tim Cant and Melanie Ott (pictured below) who are playing romantic leads opposite each other, this show has extra special significance.  Not only is it a reunion for them, after they starred together in CLOC's 2008 production of Hot Shoe Shuffle, but they are each celebrating a personal milestone with this show. Tim is returning to CLOC for his seventh production and coming back to where it all began, when in 1996, as a young school boy, Tim auditioned for CLOC's first production of 42nd Street and was cast as a juvenile ensemble member.  For Mel, this show completes the trifecta of dream roles she has always wanted to play, all of which she has performed with CLOC (after lead roles in Hot Shoe Shuffle and All Shook Up).  So to say both Tim and Mel are excited to be back would be stating the obvious.

In choosing the right show to represent this landmark occasion, CLOC went back through its past productions and looked no further than its hugely successful 1996 staging of the ultimate backstage song and dance extravaganza 42nd Street – a show about putting on a show, about the joy of musical theatre and a true lullaby of Broadway, featuring such timeless standards as  Go Into Your Dance, Dames, We’re In the Money, Shuffle off to Buffalo, You’re Gettin’ to be a Habit with Me, About a Quarter to Nine, Getting out of Town, Lullaby of Broadway, and of course, the title song.

Melbourne audiences can look forward with justified anticipation to another spectacular offering from a company that has reliably provided fifty years of first-class entertainment for its loyal patrons.  So CLOC invites audiences to come along and join the party as we celebrate!
