AIDA Next for SQUIDS Theatrical

AIDA Next for SQUIDS Theatrical

SQUIDS Theatrical (Qld) presents Elton John and Tim Rice's AIDA for seasons at Redcliffe Cultural Centre and the Schonell Theatre from May 9, 2013.

AIDA is a pop-rock musical based on the love story of Aida, an enslaved Nubian princess and Rademes, a captain of the Egyptian army. As their forbidden love blossoms, Radames struggles between that love and his loyalty to the Pharaoh, of whom he has an arranged marriage with his daughter Amneris. This deadly love triangle, SQUIDS declare, is ‘a beautiful example of true devotion that ultimately transcends the vast cultural differences between warring nations, heralding a time of unprecedented peace and prosperity’.

Aida is played by Sophia Haworth, while Nathaniel Currie plays Radames, the Egyptian captain. Sarah Denaro completes the love triangle as the glamorous Amneris.

Musical Director Michael Di Mauro leads the 17-piece orchestra while Reuben Limmers is choreographer.

Directors Julie Jones and Fiona Jassim are very passionate about bringing a colourful depiction of such an intense story to the audience.

Julie Jones told Stage Whispers, “What drew me to AIDA was the diversity of musical genres explored throughout the show, the intensity, emotion and the journey each and every character experiences.”

Fiona Jassim added, “We have been absolutely thrilled with the amount of talent that has been offered to us for this production. And it's on display from the moment the show opens to its final note. The hard work and dedication the cast has displayed shines through in each and every number.”
