The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race at Castle Hill

The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race at Castle Hill

Season 2022 at the Pavilion Theatre, continues with Castle Hill Players presenting the Australian stage comedy hit The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race, written by Melanie Tait and directed by Bernard Teuben. The Covid-de;layed delayed season will now run from 30 Sept to 15 Oct, 2022.

Appleton is a quintessential Australian country town where men are real men, women are real women... and vegetables are not used in cake. But things are changing. City slickers, tree changers and refugees are moving in. Appleton might just have to face the new century! However… simmering tensions are about to boil over… Prodigal daughter Penny has returned from the big smoke.

Appleton’s annual Potato Race has never been something Penny cared about, until she discovers that the men’s prize is five times more than the women’s. Now she has a bee in her bonnet! The towns folk are about to get a lesson in gender parity... and Penny is going to get a lesson in history.
A sparkling comedy about change and how we see our future.

“Tait’s characters are easily relatable,” says director Bernard Teuben, “and audiences will find themselves being drawn in to take sides until the final showdown. And there are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments along the way!”

The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race stars Julianne Horne, Karen Pattinson, Madhavi Shankarling, Jacqui Wilson and Gina Willison.
