Into the Woods, in Adelaide

The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of SA presents the much-loved Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine classic Into the Woods from September 22 to October 1, 2022. A moral tale intertwining the storylines of Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella, Rapunzel and several others is tied together by a story involving a childless baker and his wife, their quest to begin a family and a witch who has placed a curse on them.

A classic story is being brought to life as a youth musical at Stirling Theatre, Innaloo, WA, in September 2022. 

Based on the novel by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables features the book’s unforgettable characters as the story follows the comical adventures of spunky red-headed orphan Anne Shirley. It was the first book in a series, written between 1908 and 1939. The story is set on Prince Edward Island in Canada.

Chicago, As You’ve Never Seen It Before, at CLOC

The Roaring 20s... Prohibition... Speakeasies… Flappers... Jazz... Dance...

...and a world of crime, corruption, sex, and murder, all of which provide the backdrop to one of the most iconic, successful, and celebrated musicals of all times – Chicago, winner of 6 Tony Awards, 2 Olivier Awards and a Grammy.  There may be murder and mayhem, but mixed with the brilliance of humour, show stopping songs and stunning dance numbers, Chicago is one memorable ride through a universal tale of fame, fortune and all that jazz.

The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race at Castle Hill

Season 2022 at the Pavilion Theatre, continues with Castle Hill Players presenting the Australian stage comedy hit The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race, written by Melanie Tait and directed by Bernard Teuben. The Covid-de;layed delayed season will now run from 30 Sept to 15 Oct, 2022.

The Producers for Brisbane

Queensland Musical Theatre will present hit Broadway musical The Producers, at the Twelfth Night Theatre, opening 21 October 2022.

The Mel Brooks comedy is infamous for artfully poking fun at old societal stereotypes while also being a nostalgic romp through Broadway’s Golden Age.

The Book of Everything at Cronulla

The Arts Theatre Cronulla is staging The Book of Everything until September 3, 2022. Described as a small book about the big things in life that really matter, the play is based on the writings of young Thomas Klopper, a boy living in Amsterdam just after World War 2.

The Pitman Painters

During August, Adelaide’s Therry Theatre is presenting Lee Hall’s play The Pitman Painters, the true story of a remarkable group of men who as miners embark on an educational WEA course and become world famous artists.

Set in the 1930s, the Pitman Painters were a group of men, mainly miners from Ashington in the northeast of England, strive to further their education via a WEA course in art appreciation. A professor from a local university arrives and soon realises that these miners have little if any understanding of art.

2022 is Adelaide’s St Jude’s Players’ ‘Year of Youth’. Already this seaside community theatre company in Brighton has achieved a strong focus on the creative input of young theatre practitioners. There were fine young actors in St Jude’s first 2022 production, Vincent in Brixton and a young Assistant Director was mentored.

Constellations at Lane Cove Theatre

Constellations, the award-winning play by British writer Nick Payne (Incognito, Wanderlust, The Art of Dying), which has played both in the West End and on Broadway, is the next production of Lane Cove Theatre Company. It plays to the Performance Space at St Aidan’s, Longueville from 19 to 28 August, 2022.
