Epicentre Blackrock To Help Combat Violence

Epicentre Blackrock To Help Combat Violence

Epicentre Theatre Company (NSW) follows the success of its October production of Calendar Girls (which raised over $4000 for Leukemia research) with a powerful modern Australian classic Blackrock, which shines a light on a dark episode of our recent past, this time raising funds to combat violence.

November, 1989.  It is Toby Ackland’s eighteenth birthday and he wants to celebrate with a party down at Blackrock Surf Club. Ricko has returned from his travels and everyone is up for a night filled with booze, sex, drugs and a good time. All the teenagers take to the beach but not all of them will make it back.

Based on the true story of the rape and murder of Leigh Leigh, Nick Enright’s Blackrock examines the violence in our culture and the devastating effects on those left behind.

The play will be performed by ETC at the O'Kelly Theatre, Saint Ignatius' College Riverview - the school where the late playwright and director was himself drama captain as a student. His plays and books for musicals - which number more than 30 shows - include Cloudstreet, Summer Rain, The Venetian Twins, The Boy from Oz and Mongrels.

The cast includes Kimberly Kelly, Justen Petch, Anna Dooley, Adrian Espulso, Simon Croker, Alison Benett, Scarlett Koehne, Ian Runeckles, Maryellen George, Daniel Csutkai, Donna Sizer & Mark O’Connor.

Blackrock is co-directed by Tristan Carey and Samantha Cunningham with design by Gina Rose Drew, light and sound by Matthew Osborn, and production coordinator Brenton Dine.

$2 from every ticket sale will be donated to Rape and Domestic Violence Services Australia
