Formidable Real Life Team Stage CLOC Guys and Dolls

Chris and Lynette White are a formidable force in the Melbourne musical theatre community. Together and separately, they have helped shape and define the look, feel and direction of countless productions with leading Melbourne companies including Whitehorse, Dandenong, Catchment, Nova and CLOC. Their shows have earned them praise, admiration and a slew of theatrical nominations and awards.

Now they combine to stage CLOC Musical Theatre’s October 2013 production of Guys and Dolls.

Chris began his theatrical career on-stage as a performer of some note, while at the same time working as a secondary school teacher, directing many highly regarded school productions involving students who have since gone on to work with Chris as adults in several of his shows.  Since retiring from teaching, Chris has worked full-time as a professional artist and designer, designing, building and painting sets and backdrops for shows far and wide, both professional and non-professional, as well as for many school productions.  Meanwhile over many years, Lynette independently built up a highly respected reputation as a choreographer, both in the theatre and corporate worlds. Once Chris and Lynette decided to combine their talents, they became the complete package, working as co-directors with Lynette also managing the choreography and Chris working as Set Designer.

Chris and Lynette have had a long-standing history with CLOC Musical Theatre, both individually and together. Chris has been involved in the set design of many CLOC productions over the last twenty years, either as designer, painter, builder or providing intricately painted cloths for backdrops, including contributing to CLOC’s recent World Amateur Premiere season of The Phantom of the Opera. Lynette has choreographed a number of CLOC’s most successful productions over the past fifteen years, including A Chorus Line and Miss Saigon

Guys and Dolls marks Chris and Lynette’s third production as a team with CLOC, after Dusty (2010) and Fiddler on the Roof (2011). Together with their regular collaborator, Musical Director Phillip Osborne, Chris and Lynette are having a ball bringing to life all the loveable rogues and larger-than-life characters that inhabit 1940s New York in one of the finest and most enduring shows from the Golden Age of American Musicals.

Guys and Dolls runs from October 4-19 at the National Theatre in St Kilda for twelve performances, including three matinees on October 6, 12 and 13.
