My Fair Lady for Melbourne

My Fair Lady for Melbourne

Lerner & Loewe’s much-loved musical My Fair Lady is back in Melbourne for a limited engagement produced by GSOV - Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Victoria - on 30 and 31 March, 1 and 2 April - including two matinees - at the Alexander Theatre, Clayton - a truly loverly way to celebrate Melbourne’s theatre scene back in bloom!

My Fair Lady tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a young Cockney flower seller, and Henry Higgins, a linguistics professor, determined to transform Eliza into his idea of a “proper lady”. But who really is being transformed?

Playing the iconic Eliza Doolittle is Lauren Lee Innis-Youren: "I absolutely love playing Eliza! She is one of those down-to-earth characters - who’s a little out there-over-the-top-a-bit-extra - but even when she turns into a lady, she still has that true soul that is uniquely hers. I’m having the best time working with GSOV – the cast is fantastic; the sets are amazing, the costumes look incredible and the music is just divine!" With opera, musical and cabaret roles to her credit, Lauren Lee initially trained as a dancer, before changing course to musical theatre and classical voice.

Directed and choreographed by Robert Ray, this sublime production features the GSOV Orchestra, playing Frederick Loewe’s ravishing score and a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner. My Fair Lady boasts a bouquet of classic songs: "I Could Have Danced All Night", "Get Me to the Church on Time", "Wouldn’t It Be Loverly", "On the Street Where You Live", "The Rain in Spain", and "I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face".
