Secret Garden Musical to Bloom in Beenleigh

Secret Garden Musical to Bloom in Beenleigh

Tony Award winning musical, The Secret Garden, is Beenleigh Theatre Group’s forthcoming production at Crete Street Theatre, Beenleigh from 27 June until 12 July, 2014, bringing the musical to the extended theatre audiences of Brisbane, Logan and Gold Coast.

Based on the classic and much loved story by Frances Hodgson Burnett, it is story of Mary Lennox, orphaned in India, now abandoned and alone, and sent to England to live with her reclusive Uncle Archie in his Yorkshire mansion.  Intertwined with this familiar tale is the tragedy of the adult storyline, of Archie’s love for his beautiful, but now dead, wife Lily.  Can Mary’s discovery of “the secret garden” transform her, and in doing so, transform all in the Yorkshire house?

Australian audiences were first introduced to The Secret Garden in the mid 90’s with the benchmark production starring Anthony Warlow and Marina Prior. For Beenleigh the leading roles of Archie and Lily will be played by Brisbane singers Robert Shearer and Lauren Lee.  Robert is a versatile and gifted performer and he includes Phantom, in The Phantom of the Opera at Redcliffe in 2013, amongst his many roles. The pivotal children’s roles of Mary and Colin will be shared respectively by Chelsea Burton and Laura Seiler, Jayden McGinlay and Oliver Cameron.

Roslyn Johnson, Director, has embraced the opportunity to bring this contemporary classic to a Queensland stage, saying “stars have aligned, planets moved and the right people have stepped into precisely the right roles at the right moments.”

The Secret Garden will play at Crete Street Theatre Beenleigh from 27 June – 12 July 2014.  For bookings please visit http://www.beenleightheatregroup.com/booking
