Singing Legend Julie Anthony launches Strathfield's Phantom

Singing Legend Julie Anthony launches Strathfield's Phantom

Julie Anthony AM OBE will launch Strathfield Musical Society's The Phantom of the Opera at a gala evening on 31 May 2014 at Club Five Dock.

The launch event titled “Masquerade” is the official opening of ticket sales for Strathfield's October production of The Phantom of the Opera and gives attendees the first opportunity to buy premium tickets for the show.  Strathfield Musical Society is one of only a few amateur societies in Sydney to secure the rights to this exciting production.

“Masquerade” offers people the chance to enjoy a 3 course dinner, including wine, beer and soft drink with a fabulous evening of entertainment provided by cast members, in the company of Strathfield's Patron Ms Julie Anthony AM OBE.

The Society's current President, Brian Hughes said they normally do two shows a year, so the Masquerade event is actually the first show of the year.  “Phantom is such an important event for the Society that we want to create a buzz around it and we are so excited that our patron has agreed to come and support us.  Julie is such a wonderful person and it is a real privilege to have her launch the show.”

It's the first time the Society has put on a production of this type and scale that includes dinner and entertainment.  “We want it to be a production in its own right while giving a tantalising taste of what's to come in October,” Brian said.

Over one hundred talented singers and dancers travelled from all over Sydney to audition for coveted roles such as Christine, Carlotta, Raoul and of course the Phantom himself.  Those attending the launch will have the first chance to see the successful cast members display their talents.

Ms Anthony, the long-time Patron of the Society said, "I'm thrilled to be launching the fabulous Phantom of the Opera for Strathfield Musical Society. The Society has produced many wonderful musicals and I know that a truly stellar cast has been assembled for Phantom."

The cast are equally thrilled to be performing for one of Australia's greatest talents.  Ms Anthony starred in shows in London's West End, the USA and Australia.  She has won a staggering 15 Mo Awards and in 2006 was elected as one of “100 Greatest Entertainers of the 20th Century”.  Of course she is possibly best known as the quintessential singer of Australia's National Anthem having sung it at many major events including the Opening Ceremony of the Sydney Olympics.
