Spotlight Awards Recognise Musical Theatre Stalwarts

Theatre companies in Sydney’s southern suburbs have honoured four of their finest servants.

Members of the Engadine Musical Society, Miranda Musical Society, Rockdale Musical Society and The Regals Musical Society have inducted Andrea Munn, Barbara Glance, James Worner and Laurel Gee into their Hall Of Fame.

The induction happened at the Spotlight Awards, held for the second time at a sparkling dinner/concert at Club Central Menai last Saturday night (July 13, 2013).

James Worner has costumed countless shows for all four groups. He’s known to work till the small hours of the morning for days on end to ensure the costumes are as close to perfect as possible.

Laurel Gee joined the Rockdale Musical Society for their 1956 production of Oklahoma!, before joining the Miranda School of Arts Theatre Group which became the Miranda Musical Society in 1967. She was the society’s first secretary. She’s directed and performed in many productions by local groups since.

Barbara Glance is the heart of the Miranda Musical Society. Year after year she has cooked for cast and crew, shared box office duties and helped with costume changes.

Andrea Munn provided the Miranda Musical Society the services of her TV star pooch Daisy for their 1988 production of Annie and became hooked on the theatre drug. Since then she has been active in upward of 100 productions with local societies.
