Superstar to Rock Concord

Superstar to Rock Concord

A cast of over 30 singers and dancers are busily rehearsing for Ashfield Musical Society’s (NSW) upcoming production of Jesus Christ Superstar, the dynamic rock opera loosely based on the seven last days of Jesus Christ, opening at Concord RSL on November 2.

Featured in the cast are experienced Ashfield performers - Rajah Selvarajahas Judas Iscarot, Cameron Anderson, who plays Jesus of Nazareth and Whitney Erickson who plays Mary Magdalene (pictured).
Under the musical direction of Alan Steadman, a 13piece rock orchestra will lend instrumental weight to Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice score including ‘I Don’t Know How To Love Him’, ‘What’s The Buzz?’, ‘Everything’s Alright’ and the famous title track ‘Superstar’. Direction and set design is by Dennis Clements and choreography is by Wendy Twiner.

Describing his concept for the show, Clements said “We have created a stylized and theatrical staging for the show, weaving elements from the 70’s with contemporary influences. A multi level scaffold set provides great visual impact and brings the action to closer to the audience. This version of this most famous of stories has always been about the human reality of these characters, and we hope to show that in a simple and truthful way.”

Jesus Christ Superstarplays from Friday 2nd to Sunday 11th November at Concord RSL Club Auditorium, Nullawarra Avenue, Concord West. There are matinee and evening performances.

Tickets are $35.00 for Adults and $30.00 for concessions (A reserve), and A and B reserve tickets are still available – don’t miss out!
