XANADU SKATES INTO BEENLEIGH

XANADU SKATES INTO BEENLEIGH

Beenleigh Theatre Company’s second production for the year, the stage musical version of XANADU, which rolls into the Crete Street Theatre from 2 May 2014, is the Tony and Drama Desk Award nominated musical’s Queensland premiere.

In the spirit of the cult film of the same name, XANADU follows the journey of beautiful, magical Greek muse, Clio/Kira, who descends to Venice Beach, California, direct from Mount Olympus.  Kira’s quest is to inspire struggling artist, Sonny Malone, to follow his creative dream and create a roller disco (hey, it is the 80’s!).

XANADU features music and lyrics by Jeff Lynne (Electric Light Orchestra) and John Farrar including “Evil Woman”, “Have you ever been Mellow”, “I’m Alive”, “Magic”, “Suddenly”, “All over the World” and of course, from the movie, the Olivia Newton John hit “Xanadu”.

"The great thing about this show is it works as both a loving homage to the movie and as a hilarious parody,“ said Director Michael Skelton. “Every cast member gets a chance to shine. It's rare to have a strong leading female in a musical, but Xanadu has multiple strong female roles, all of who are hilarious. Combine that with the rockin' soundtrack, awesome choreography, and fabulous 80’s vibe and XANADU will give audiences the best time at the theatre since the last time they had a good time at the theatre. That's the XANADU guarantee!"

To celebrate the opening weekend of XANADU (2 and 3 May) audiences will be transported to the best of times - the 1980's High School Formal. So break out your big shoulder pads, crushed velvet tux, oversized corsages and try your luck at being crowned the XANADU Prom King or Queen. Themed drinks, Prom DJ and photographer will be there to add to the fun!

XANADU’S young and creative production team have put together an inspiring cast; singing, dancing and roller skating their way into a joyful night of entertainment.  So ‘get your skates on’ and don’t miss out on this magical production.

XANADU will appear at Crete Street Theatre Beenleigh from 2-17 May 2014.  For bookings please visit http://beenleightheatregroup.com/booking/ (Stage Whispers readers receive a 10% discount on tickets. Use the code word 'SWVIP1').
