2013 Olivier Award Winners

Dame Helen Mirren took out the Olivier Award for Best Actress at the 2013 Awards for her performance as Queen Elizabeth II in The Audience, but it was another play, The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time, which dominated with seven awards, equaling the record set by Matilda last year.

The awards ceremony at London’s Royal Opera House on April 28, 2013 was hosted by Hugh Bonnevilleand Sheridan Smith.

Top Hatwon the award for Best Musical, in a thin year for new musicals in the West End. Based on the Astaire- Rogers movie was also recognized for its choreography and costume design.

Sweeney Toddtook out the award for best musical revival, with its stars Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton receiving the best actor and actress in a musical gongs.

Australian audiences can see Helen Mirren’s performance in The Audience on cinema screens nation-wide from July 5 as part of National Theatre Live. Link
