Brianna Bishop to play lead in MIDNIGHT
Brianna Bishop, seen most recently in the national tour of Hairspray as Amber Von Tussle, has landed the lead role of Ella in MIDNIGHT, a major new musical set to open at the Comedy Theatre in Melbourne in June. She will join an impressive line-up of co-stars including Shane Jacobson, Lucy Durack, Thomas McGuane, Verity Hunt-Ballard, Raphael Wong, Kristie Nguy, Melanie Bird with Matt Lee and more.
“Brianna Bishop is a music theatre powerhouse! Her comedy instincts are amazing and her presence onstage fills the theatre - and that voice! Wow! Australia has found its next big star,” said co-star Shane Jacobson.
“We are so thrilled to have found our Ella after an exhaustive search. Brianna brings such warmth and humour to the role and really is leading the charge in defining this new and exciting show. I cannot wait for everyone to see her in this production,” said John Foreman.

Brianna is a Melbourne based actor, singer, dancer and musician and most recently appeared in the national tours of Hairspray and Chess The Musical. As a young artist, Brianna’s love for story telling began when she was a little girl, joining Stage Masters and the Young Australian Broadway Chorus before she performed her way into the grand finals of the 2010 season of Australia’s Got Talent as a 12 year old.
Brianna has also studied acting at the National Theatre Drama School and trained in Musical Theatre at National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA).She graduated in 2017, performing in Chimerica for Sydney Theatre Company directed by Kip Williams.
MIDNIGHT- The Cinderella Musical premieres at the Comedy Theatre in June for a strictly limited season. With music/lyrics by John Foreman (Aussie Pops Orchestra, Carols By Candlelight) and Anthony Costanzo (Life’s A Circus, Cross Roads) and featuring an exclusive song by Kate Miller-Heidke (Muriel’s Wedding), MIDNIGHT is a magical romantic comedy that will delight audiences young and old.
Debuting just in time for the school holidays, this enchanting new tale features Ella, a feisty, funny and passionate young heroine who doesn't want or need a so-called Prince Charming. The Prince, enchanted by this alluring stranger, suddenly finds himself in uncharted territory and quickly learns that Ella is like no other. Can he prove his worth? Can she ignite his desire for change? Can all be achieved before the magical stroke of MIDNIGHT?
The creative team for this reimagined tale includes Direction/Book by Dean Murphy (Charlie & Boots, The Divorce) and Pip Mushin(Resident: Book of Mormon, Fiddler on the Roof) Choreography by Kelly Aykers (So You Think You Can Dance, The Wizard of Oz, Barnum) with Musical Direction by Anthony Barnhill (Evita, Phantom of the Opera). Set design is by James Browne (Ghost the musical, Cabaret) costumes by Harriet Oxley (Into the Woods, The Flying Dutchman) and lighting by Helpmann Award winner Trudy Dalgleish (Hairspray, Saturday Night Fever) rounding out this magical offering.
