Seymour Centre 2024 Season

The Seymour Centre's 2024 season features five productions presented in partnership with some of Sydney’s most ambitious independent theatre companies.

Opening the year in April, Outhouse Theatre Co. returns with the Australian premiere of A Case for the Existence of God by Samuel D. Hunter (The Whale). Awarded Best Play in 2022 by New York Drama Critic’s Circle, it is an exploration of empathy that investigates the connection between two very different men, both experiencing a hostile and divided world.

Nominations Announced For 2023 Matilda Awards

Placing Queensland theatre centre stage, the 36th annual Matilda Awards will be held at Brisbane Powerhouse on 26th February, 2024

This year’s nominees celebrate outstanding actors, composers, designers, directors from across the Sunshine State, with 62 creatives and 35 shows nominated across the board.

Melbourne Workshop in February To Develop Harry Chapin Musical Short Stories

Monstrous Theatre has announced the first development workshop for Short Stories, a new musical with book by British screenwriter, Mike Bullen, and music from the back-catalogue of the late, great, American singer-songwriter Harry Chapin.

This will be the third new work Monstrous Theatre has workshopped in the past 12 months, following on from an adaptation of Helen Garner’s The Spare Room, and a new play Jump by Theresa Borg.

2023 Sydney Theatre Award Winners Announced

The winners of the 2023 Sydney Theatre Awards were announced tonight (Jan 29, 2024) at a star-studded ceremony, with 30 Awards presented, shared between 15 productions which played on Sydney stages during 2023. Almost 500 members of the Sydney theatre community gathered at the York Theatre, Seymour Centre to celebrate.

Producers Jeffrey Seller and Michael Cassel have announced that the revolution returns to Sydney when the Tony, Grammy, Olivier and Pulitzer Prize winning musical Hamilton comes home to the Sydney Lyric Theatre in 2024.

Hamilton made its Australian premiere at the Sydney Lyric Theatre on Wednesday 17 March, 2021 and was met with overwhelming audience and critical acclaim.
