Greta Scacchi Arrives Today to Rehearse Williamson World Premiere

Greta Scacchi arrives in Sydney today (November 1, 2011) from her home in London to commence rehearsals tomorrow for the World Premiere of David Williamson's Nothing Personal, with local cast membersRachael Coopes, Jeanie Drynan, Julie Hudspeth, Emma Jackson, Andrew McFarlane, Matthew Moore and Greta Scacchi.

Bea (Greta Scacchi),60, is the Australian publisher of a large international imprint.  Naomi (Emma Jackson), mid thirties, is her head of marketing.  Bea is a legend in the industry, having discovered and promoted most, but not all, of Australia’s high profile novelists and authors.  Naomi is ambitious.  Bea can’t stand the current new “dirty realist” writers with their emphasis on drugs, sex and nihilism. Naomi believes these writers are bringing new truth and excitement into a stagnant literary scene.

This is the story of a bitterly fought power struggle, between a baby boomer and a member of generation X.  With the incisive wit and sharpness of social perception that only Williamson can deliver, it’s a blackly funny story about the way that someone who has power fights ferociously to maintain it, and the anger and frustration felt by someone who feels she is being denied her time in the sun.

If they only had their professional battles to fight it would be hard enough for Bea and Naomi,  but they both have private lives as well.  Bea’s relationship with her daughter is, as often happens between a high achieving mother and an angry daughter who feels neglected, problematic to say the least.  And Naomi’s bored with her partner and a high flying multi millionaire is courting her.  The problem is he’s the Chairman of the board.
