HAVE YOU SEEN THE MAN CUB?

HAVE YOU SEEN THE MAN CUB?

Jungle Book - The Musical takes to the stage in Newtown for the April 2014 school holidays.

WARNING – this is not the Disney version.

Based on the beloved stories by Rudyard Kipling, Artistic Director/Intendant of King Street TheatreMarkus Weber has adapted and will direct, the classic tale of Mowgli, Baloo, Bagheera and their arch nemesis Shere Khan, to a rocking soundtrack by Michael Summ from Acoustic Media from Germany.

Jungle Book – The Musical was originally adapted by Markus in German for the European Summer Theatre season and to this day it is still being performed every Summer in many German towns and cities. In 1984 Markus was the first to gain the international theatre rights for performing Jungle Book. 1998 saw the first English version premiere at the Independent Theatre at North Sydney, with music by Robbie Krupski.

Since then many incarnations of this musical performed.

The main change has been the music. Michael Summ from Acoustic Media in Freiburg/Germany, a long time collaborator of Markus, has taken on Jungle Book – The Musical and created a rocking soundtrack to this very much-loved story of a little man cub brought up by wolves, a black panther and a bear.

The production opens the inaugural season of the newly established "School Holiday Program @ the KST". It will be followed by Matty Grey's AGELESS 3 - The Dreamweaver VS The Nightmare Child in July, the workshop production of a new Australian musical called What's my Colour? in September/October and the Christmas Musical Pantomime Mother Goose, newly adapted by the KST team in December.

Does Mowgli survive in the jungle? Can Mowgli fight off the taunts of Shere Khan, the Bengal tiger who wants him out, while trying to escape the hynoptic powers of Kaa, the python?  This is survivor Newtown style, with a little help from some unlikely friends. There is bubbly Baloo, the bear who teaches Mowgli lessons in life and Bagheera, the Black Panther who shares with him the wisdoms of the jungle world. But why does King Louie, the king of the monkeys want him?  Will Mowgli be on the menu for all to feast on him in Jungle Book - The Musical?

Starring in the Jungle Book – The Musical are Maria de Marco (Bagheera), Mark Power (Baloo), Brett O’Neill as as King Louie, Mandy Fung as Kaa, Bernard Wheatley as Shere Khan, Kyle Stephensas Colonel Hathi and Badaidilaga Maftuh-Flynn as Mowgli.
