International Hit One Man, Two Guvnors to tour Australia
The National Theatre of Great Britain’s hit production of One Man, Two Guvnors will tour Australia in 2013.

One Man, Two Guvnors, based on Goldoni’s The Servant of Two Masters with songs by Grant Olding, is a huge British slapstick hit, directed by Nicholas Hytner. It received seven 2012 Tony nominations and was awarded Best New Play in the 2011 Critics’ Circle Award. It is currently running in the West End and on Broadway where it received the Outer Critics’ Circle Award for Outstanding New Broadway Play 2012.
In the glorious tradition of British comedy expect a fabulous on-stage band, satire and slapstick as Francis Henshall deals with cross-dressing mobsters, star crossed lovers, falling trousers and flying fish heads while trying to keep his two guvnors apart.
The Adelaide season will be part new Adelaide Festival Artistic Director David Sefton’s first festival program.
“I’m a firm believer that art doesn’t have to be ‘high’ to be great. Great entertainment and great art are about execution, quality and excellence. One Man, Two Guvnors is an example of something that is excellent, hilarious, and incredibly accessible for everybody. I’m thrilled to be bringing this production to Australia given its huge success in London and New York”, said Sefton.
Melbourne Theatre Company’s Artistic Director, Brett Sheehy said ‘I saw the production in its opening week at the National Theatre last year, and immediately wanted Melbourne to see it. So I was thrilled when Arts Centre Melbourne approached us to partner with them, to make sure that could happen!’
Judith Isherwood, Chief Executive, Arts Centre Melbournesaid ‘We have always said our ambition is to bring the best theatre in the world to our stages in Melbourne. Our Man, Two Guvnors fits that bill. It’s a wonderful show and we’re thrilled to give local audiences a chance to see it. I love it and I know they will too”.
