2015 Glugs Theatre Awards Nominations

The Glugs have announced the nominees of the 2015 Glugs Theatre Awards, to be presented Monday 1 February 2016 at Sydney’s Castlereagh Boutique Hotel.

This year marks the Glugs’ 50th anniversary since their first meeting. In 1966 a group of theatre lovers – critics, journalists, actors and theatre-goers – met weekly for lunch to discuss theatre and welcome international touring actors. Founding members included theatre critic Norman Kessell, Bill Fenn, JCW’s PR man John Love, and ABC producer Allan Kendall.

Farewell to Rock Surfers

After 18 years delivering independent theatre to Sydney audiences, Rock Surfers Theatre Company regrets to announce that it has ceased trading from December 17 2015.

Making Australian Musicals Great

A new network to help develop Australian musicals has been born with a range of ideas including a million dollar fund to workshop new productions. David Spicer attended the symposium at the Victorian College of the Arts in September.

Composer/musical director Max Lambert was pulling no punches. “A lot of people in Australian musical theatre have no idea of what they are doing.”
