King Kong Cast Members in Charity Concert

King Kong Cast Members in Charity Concert

Cast members of King Kong are putting together a charity concert in support of Mission Australia, to be performed on January 19, 2014.

“A couple of months back, I decided to organise a charity concert for the cast of King Kong to perform in,” Josh Robson, who is currently performing in the production of King Kong at the Regent Theatre as part of the ensemble told Stage Whispers.

“I approached the cast with the idea of giving up some of their time during eight show weeks to rehearse dance numbers and songs for the concert and we had over 20 members from our company who answered with a resounding yes.”

That is how the concert at Ormond Hall, St Kilda, Together We Stand, came about.

The cast will sing and dance to music theatre and pop songs accompanied by a live band - two hours of entertainment and hosted by Jan Van De Stool (Queenie Van De Zandt’s alter ego).

“I’m very busy with my new course ‘T-Birds and Pink Ladies – Genital References in Modern Musical Theatre’, but even still I’m making time to host this lovely concert to help raise awareness for the plight of homeless people in Australia and also raise awareness of the under-used talent in the ensemble of King Kong,” Ms Van De Stool said. “As a interpretive dancer and singing psychologist I know what it is like to be misunderstood and under-valued by society, which is why I like to help people who are not as privileged as me and fellow performers who are not as talented as me, by hosting charity concerts and high profile things like that."

All profits from this evening will be going towards Mission Australia, an organisation that works with providing skills and services to the homeless that enable them to remain self-sufficient once Mission Australia provides them with the services they require.

“This is such a worthy cause,” Josh said, “and we would love to sell out the 400 seats so that we can give a reasonable donation to Mission Australia. This can be done with your help.
