Mitchell Butel in Bernstein and Candide

As part of the international celebrations for the 100th anniversary of Leonard Bernstein’s birth, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs will present a concert version of Bernstein’s Candide at Sydney Opera House on September 29 and 30, 2018.

Although the original 1956 Broadway season of Candide met with mixed reviews, the Colombia Records recording of the original cast album thrived and Bernstein's score gained a sort of cult status.

2018 Rob Guest Endowment Semi-Finalists

Earlier in September the Rob Guest Endowment held auditions in Melbourne and Sydney to search for this year’s winner of the Rob Guest Endowment Award. After careful consideration, the 30 Semi-Finalists for the 2018 Rob Guest Endowment Award have been chosen. 

State Theatre Company SA Season 2019

An all-female version of an Australian classic, the return of a hit comedy and a Cabaret Festival production starring one of Australia’s brightest musical theatre personalities all featutre in State Theatre Company’s 2019 season.

The eight-play program - announced by outgoing Artistic Director Geordie Brookman at the Dunstan Playhouse on Monday, 10 September combines comedies, sweeping epics and reimagined Australian classics led by old and new faces both on and off the stage.

Riverside’s National Theatre of Parramatta Season 2019

Riverside’s National Theatre of Parramatta (NTofP) has announced its Season 2019, comprising three Australian premieres and a newly commissioned work. In its fourth year, the NTofP program focuses on identity and celebrates diversity.

In 2019, NTofP presents the productions Grounded by George Brandt, Girl in the Machine by Stef Smith, Comedy of Errors adapted by Hilary Bell and White Pearl by Anchuli Felicia King, a co-production with Sydney Theatre Company. 

Sydney Theatre Company 2019 Season

Sydney Theatre Company has unveiled its 2019 Season – Kip Williams’ second as Artistic Director - a program of thirteen shows across four venues.

Among the highlights, Rebel Wilson, Mia Wasikowska, Celia Pacquola and Patrick Jhanur make their STC mainstage debuts, featuring alongside STC audience favourites including Hugo Weaving, Pamela Rabe, Helen Thomson, Caroline Brazier, Michelle Lim Dividson, Zahra Newman, Amber McMahon, Rahel Romahn, Hunter Page-Lochard, Geraldine Hakewill and Toby Schmitz.

Candide in Concert at Opera House

One of the great legacies of Leonard Bernstein’s career, Candide premiered on Broadway, at the Martin Beck Theater in New York on December 1, 1956. Although the original season met with mixed reviews, the Colombia Records recording of the original cast album thrived and Bernstein's score gained a sort of cult status.

Over the coming decades Bernstein collaborated on five versions of his operetta, each time adding to the show’s song list, and further enhancing the work’s increasingly legendary reputation.

Parramatta’s Funny Girl

A story of shining success and bittersweet love, Funny Girl is the musical theatre classic that celebrates Broadway’s comedic genius Fanny Brice.  Following their inaugural production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee earlier this year, Theatre & Company are venturing into the Broadway classic.

Melbourne Theatre Company Season 2019

Melbourne Theatre Company Artistic Director Brett Sheehy AO has revealed MTC’s 2019 Season.

Belvoir Season 2019

Belvoir has announced the nine productions that will make up their 2019 season.

Kicking off the 2019 season is the world premiere of Counting & Cracking, a new theatre work created in conjunction with CuriousWorks. Presented at Sydney’s Town Hall and co-commissioned by CIAF, Sydney Festival and Adelaide Festival, this epic production will comprise theatre, music, dancing and food.

Malthouse Theatre Season 2019

From the Lambs to the Pickles, bogans to bourgeoisie, mysterious roadtrips and outback mysteries, Malthouse Theatre’s Season 2019 is an adventure that begins in Melbourne and travels onward to out-of-this-world experiences.
