Pippin for Sydney in December

Pippin for Sydney in December

Hit Broadway musical Pippin returns to the Sydney stage this December when young independent theatre company CrinkleCut Productions present the darkly comic musical parable at the Sidetrack Theatre.

We're here to tell you a remarkable tale.

Don't believe your eyes. Don't trust your ears. The players are liars. These things did not happen.

But it’s all true.

Pippin is the son of King Charlemagne. He has a kingdom at his feet but he is lost and unhappy. He needs to find something fulfilling amongst the hedonism and war of his father’s empire or his life won’t have meaning. While searching he encounters miraculous acts of illusion, drag, burlesque and acrobatics. But Pippin is desperate to find his own extraordinary act.

From the award-winning composer of Wicked, Stephen Schwartz, Pippin is a spectacular parable with a heart of darkness.

Pippin was originally directed for the Broadway stage in the 1970s by legendary Bob Fosse, starred a young Jill Clayburgh and played to packed houses for 1,944 performances. The original Australian production, which opened at Her Majesty’s Theatre, Melbourne in February 1974, starred Johnny Farnham, Colleen Hewett, Ronne Arnold, Nancye Hayes and Jenny Howard.

Crinkle Cut’s production is directed by Benita de Wit, with musical direction by Andy Peterson - leading a 6 piece live band - choreography by Simone Salle and design by Marissa Dale-Johnson. It stars Benjamin Hoetjes as the Leading Player, Mitchell Lagos as Pippin, Sydney drag legend Gaynor Tension as Berthe, David Attrill as Charlemagne, Aimee Timmins as Catherine, Erin Bruce as Fastrada, Phil McIntosh as Lewis, Zach Smith as Theo plus featured dancers Kat Hoyos and Sam Larielle.
