Rolling Thunder Returns

Depicting the Vietnam War from a uniquely Australian perspective, the rock drama Rolling Thunder Vietnam returns from April 2023 for an extended national tour of 14 cities. Based on letters written by Vietnam Veterans, Rolling Thunder Vietnam fuses a live band, audio visuals and a dialogue with the audience. First staged in 2014, a planned 2020 revival was derailed by Covid after just a handful of performances in Geelong. The show’s writer Bryce Hallett discusses the new production.

Cast Announced for City of Angels at Hayes Theatre Co

Producer Joshua Robson Productions (Bonnie & Clyde, In the Heights) in association with Hayes Theatre Co have announced the cast of the upcoming production of City of Angels which plays at Hayes Theatre Co from 23 June.

Adelaide Cabaret Festival 2023

Adelaide Cabaret Festival is set to celebrate Adelaide Festival Centre’s 50th Anniversary from June 9 to 24, presenting its 23rd program, featuring 342 artists and musicians across 91 performances including 13 world premieres and 20 Adelaide premieres by a large contingent of Australian artists and performers from the USA, United Kingdom, and France.

Over 12 nights of  theatre, dance, music that traverses the globe, large scale installation, public performance, free and low cost experiences, and outdoor works of mass participation, RISING will invite audiences to join a 10,000 strong kazoo orchestra, to slice up the ice, and to reflect, reckon, rave and revel in Melbourne’s night-time buzz.

Musical Dynasties

Coral Drouyn looks at two great Australian theatre families, proving that ‘the show must go on’ across the generations. Current members of both dynasties have been brought together in the touring production of Hairspray.

Casting Announced for Metropolis at The Hayes.

Little Eggs Collective in association with Hayes Theatre Co will present the World Premiere of a new Australian musical Metropolis at the Hayes Theatre Co from 21 April. 

Fritz Lang’s iconic 1927 science fiction film Metropolis was based on the novel his wife, Thea Von Harbou, wrote two years earlier, with essential parts of the story lost on the cutting-room floor. Little Eggs Collective has adapted one of the most influential science fiction tales of all time into a live theatre experience.

No Place like Holmes

You hear the description “triple-threat” all the time in musical theatre, but it’s rarer to find such a creature in drama. The triple threat is actor/writer/director. Kenneth Branagh is one, as is Emma Thomson. And so is Brisbane’s Michael Futcher.
