SQUABBALOGIC ANNOUNCES 2014-15 SEASON

SQUABBALOGIC ANNOUNCES 2014-15 SEASON

Sydney musical theatre company, Squabbalogic Independent Music Theatre Inc, has announced their second annual season of independent musicals, which will be presented at The Seymour Centre’s Reginald Theatre this year and next.

The season of three productions features the Australian premieres of SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM and TRIASSIC PARQ, plus Broadway classic MAN OF LA MANCHA.

The season will commence with the Australian Premiere of the intriguing stage documentary SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM, playing October 1 to 18, 2014.

More than any other retrospective of his work, SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM is drawn right from the heart of Stephen Sondheim, the genius behind some of the finest music theatre works of the 20th century including Sunday in the Park with George and Into The Woods. This intimate look at the Father of the Modern Musical will see two-dozen carefully selected songs, from the world-famous to the obscure, framed by in-depth video interviews delving into Sondheim’s personal life and artistic process.

Craig Stewart (A New Brain, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) will direct a cast that includes Blake Erickson (Hold Me Closer, Logies Dancer), Rob Johnson (Carrie The Musical), Louise Kelly (Billy Elliot), Debora Krizak (Sweet Charity), Phillip Lowe (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), Monique Sallé (A Chorus Line), Rob Johnson (Carrie The Musical) and Christy Sullivan (Next to Normal).

Next, Squabbalogic presents their first foray into revivals, marking the 50th anniversary of the Tony Award-winning musical MAN OF LA MANCHA from February 25 to March 21, 2015.

One of the most enduring and beloved musicals of all time, MAN OF LA MANCHA spins the tale of political prisoner Miguel de Cervantes and his manservant in the dungeons of the Spanish Inquisition. Directed by Jay James-Moody (The Drowsy Chaperone, Carrie The Musical), this vividly imaginative, poignant and humorous play-within-a-play will be re-conceived and restaged, bringing it to life for a 21st century audience. Marika Aubrey will play the role of Aldonza / Dulcinea.

Squabbalogic will conclude the 2014-15 Season with the Australian Premiere of the hit Off-Broadway comedy TRIASSIC PARQ from June 17 to July 4, 2015.

Based on the blockbuster films and timed to coincide with the fourth instalment of the franchise hitting cinema screens, TRIASSIC PARQ brings dinosaurs, showtunes and sex changes together in this inventive new musical that will leave the audience laughing and crying all the way back to the prehistoric era. TRIASSIC PARQ will reunite several of the [title of show] team, including Jay James-Moody who will direct his previous co-stars Blake Erickson and Keira Daley.

Squabbalogic’s2014-15 Season marks a renewed partnership with the Seymour Centre, where past productions Thrill Me, [title of show] and Carrie The Musical were staged to great acclaim.

Artistic Director and General Manager of the Seymour Centre, Tim Jones said, “Squabbalogic are an independent theatre company of great ambition and invention matched with a high degree of skill. The Seymour Centre is extremely proud to again partner with them to present a major season of musical works, productions that I have no doubt, will be marked by the Squabbalogic style:  brilliant performances, a joyful, hand-made production style and the desire to present music theatre in the most inventive of ways.”

Of the season, Squabbalogic Artistic Director Jay James-Moody said, “We’re absolutely beside ourselves with excitement to be embarking on our second annual season, and to be returning to a venue that represents some of our best and most well received work.”
