250 First Dates

250 First Dates
Written and directed by Tania Aalis. Fringe World. Back Door Productions. Chemistry at the Girls School, East Perth. Jan 15-23, 2021

While Fringe World cabarets have more than a few shows on dating in the modern age, 250 First Dates is particularly clever. This clever and funny offering from Back Door Productions, playing at the Girls School, is proving very popular and deservedly so.

The gorgeous Tania Aalis actually estimates that she has been on over 350 first dates - although that doesn’t work as well as a title. Her very funny tales of dates gone awry, the men she has loved and lost, the losers she was glad to lose and the perils of dating in three different countries keep the audience enthralled throughout.

Tania Aais is blessed with a beautiful voice - she has wonderful depth of tone and warmly fills the space. Her choices of song are clever and sometimes unexpected. She is accompanied by the absolutely adorable Ethan Walters, whose accompaniment is superb, but whose wry commentary and physical comedy add much to the show. They are a very solid working team.

250 First Dates’ initial season is completely sold out, but rumours are strong that it will return for a second season at the Girls School, at the end of Fringe World Feb 11-14. Check your guides and ap as this will quickly sell out.

250 First Dates is a fun choice for a date but an even better morale boost for the perpetually single. Grab your favourite singleton and book a ticket for the extended season.
