Barbu Electro Trad

Barbu Electro Trad
Cirque Alfonse. The Peacock/Gluttony. Adelaide Fringe. March 8-13th, 15th-19th, 2017

This show is like no other circus cabaret; with a thumping soundtrack and an abundance of cheeky shenanigans, you will have the time of your life.

Large screens either side of the performing space provide video of the beautiful Quebec region, along with scantily clad performers frolicking through the countryside. At times, bizarre, it all soon makes sense.

A talented group of acrobats and musicians from Canada use traditional Quebec folklore to bring to life the most fun you will have inside a tent. Showcasing brawn and impressive beards, the men in the troupe ooze charm and sex appeal. The ladies match their male counterparts in their strength and agility and are just as keen to play up to the audience.

Showcasing many skills, the performance includes aerial work with a hoop, acrobatics, juggling and roller-skating. Add to that the zany personalities and plenty of slapstick and what you get is a high-octane 70 minutes.

The audience were vocal in their appreciation on the night I attended, but what was most satisfying was to see how much enjoyment the performers were having. Their energy was infectious.

Josianne Laporte is a whip cracking percussionist, Andre Gagne’s vocals are strong and David Simard pushes buttons that guarantee a toe-tapping crowd. Collectively they are the heartbeat of the show. Energetic rhythms pulsate through the floor creating a dynamic vibe.

This show is pure mayhem and you’ll love every minute of it.
