Devised by The Escapists. La Boite Theatre (Qld). 30th March - 17th April 2011

Expect the unexpected. This show breaks all the normal theatre conventions and blows you away with its inventive audacity.

Born as a cultivar of theatresports, stand-up comedy, the fertile imagination of The Escapists and the unique performance skills of Lucas Stibbard, this is entertainment for all ages.

It is almost stand-up comedy on steroids, except that it is anchored by an ingenious playscript devised by Matthew Ryan and Lucas Stibbard, bulked up by the devious minds of the realisers Neridah Waters (who composed and provides the soundscape) and Sarah Winter, with Keith Clark and Jonathon Oxlade (designers).

Ultimately, however, audience surprise and entertainment relies on Stibbard’s improvisation skills and spontaneity. He imbues everything in the show with human characteristics: days of the week; household items; jobs; the floor, ceiling and dividing wall of two adjoining flats ─ and populates them with peculiar familiar characters like us (and even the killer Magpie of Montague Road, West End).

With chalk and chalk boards, his unseen support team and an overhead projector he creates performance spaces as needed and seduces us into following him into them.

His performance is frenetic – goodness knows what long term effects it is having on that multitalented lithe and limber body.
