Drew Downing’s Ultimate 90’s Playlist

Drew Downing’s Ultimate 90’s Playlist
Melbourne Cabaret Festival. Chapel off Chapel. June 20 – 22, 2019

Drew Downing’s Ultimate 90’s Playlist is a nineties rock-concert-cabaret show performed by the charismatic crowd pleaser Drew Downing, backed by a fine ensemble of musicians and singers.  The show begins with a medley mix beginning with “Barbie Girl” (Aqua) and breaks into “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” (Deep Blue Something).

Downing takes us on a personal musical journey harking back to his early years watching Saturday morning Video Hits, while revealing his obsession with teen drama Dawson’s Creek. He is honest and upfront about his formative years and proud of his humble beginnings in the seaside suburb of Rosebud, where he was   once bursting with musical inspiration, yearning to follow his dreams.

There is magic in the air and Downing knows how to get the party started; he is upfront and personal and builds his show up with his cast of fellow musicians, who are as much as part of the show as he is. He is a wonderful front man who is perfectly comfortable as lead man and or behind the piano. His version of “I Try”  (Macy Gray)  is velvety  smooth, followed by “Still The One I Love” (Shania Twain),  “Wonderwall” (Oasis) and “Tubthumping” (Chumbawamba), which just keep shaking the house.

The nineties was the era of the boy bands and Downing sets his fancy-free style with “Larger Than Life” (Backstreet Boyz) followed by “Where Is The Love” (Hanson), while “Say You’ll Be There” (Spice Girls) has audiences giggling with sing alongs.

Drew Downing and his team are wonderful entertainers who know how to rock and roll in a cool understated style.
