Gasworks Cabaret Project

Gasworks Cabaret Project
Gasworks Arts Park, Albert Park. February 27 – March 2, 2019

The fabulous Dolly Diamond hosted the Gala Preview for the fantastic new cabaret festival that includes a bunch of versatile and talented people who will perform under various banners at the Gasworks Theatres between the 27th of February to the 2 of March.

A taste of things to come, what better way to start the show with a luscious rendition of “Love is In the Air” followed by “Que Sera Sera”. Our darling Dolly has us all singing along cheerily, as she introduces us to the marvelous performances, showcased for the up and coming Cabaret project.

The ever popular and thrice Green Room Award winner Jude Perl is first up; a natural born singer/songwriter and comedian, who can meld her jingle writer day job into catchy tunes with a twist, has us laughing and bopping in our seats. Perl is fittingly eighties retro and plays piano with masterful ease and style.

Selina Jenkins is upfront and personal along with her acoustic guitar, delivering a comic cool, raw and honest style. She offers a particular brand of homegrown blues set in the saga of the rental market and crappy houses that she learns to love. Jenkins is hilariously funny and entertaining!

Multi ARIA winning vocalist Sally Cameron, accompanied by Sam Leskie on guitar, pays tribute to the short career of Eva Cassidy, who sadly passed away in 1996. “Fields of Gold” is sung with heartfelt passion, stirring your emotions. Cameron is an exceptional talent with an exquisite voice.

The Ginger and Tonic, an award-winning a cappella girl group, who indulge us with their own guilty pleasures, will be performing a tribute to the best Australian music and harmonizing iconic rock anthems. Their harmony rendition of Britney Spears “Poison” was amazing and hilarious. Superb talents!
