The Gazillion Bubble Show

The Gazillion Bubble Show
Festival Theatre Adelaide. 14-17 July, 2016

Audiences will be swept away in the magical world of bubble artistry that is The Gazillian Bubble Show. The anticipation of the predominantly young audience at the performance I attended was palpable, but as one soon discovers, this show appeals to the child in all of us.

Since the age of three Melody Yang has been performing with her family. She is the youngest of her clan to join the bubble business that combines art, science and entertainment.

As the lights and lasers shone around us, a ‘gazillion’ of bubbles was released into the audience; as the bubbles floated through the lights it was as though we were surrounded by glitter. The expressions on the faces in the audience were of pure delight.

It is hard not to be swept up in this astonishing display of tricks, in which bubbles are used as most have never seen before. The audience members are quite literally surrounded by the luminous liquid as bubbles fly through the air. Young and old hands reach to pop them as they come near, transporting everyone to another world.

The magic did not end there. An incredible soundtrack highlighted the amazing laser and light show. There was one point in the production that I realised my mouth was gaping, as I was in awe of what I was witnessing. Beautiful execution and choreography meant Yang had the audience in the palm of her hand.

It is fair to say I have never seen a show of this genre. It is unique and has a supernatural feel. The Yang family are on a winner. As long as there are children in the world this show will be touring. Bravo!
