Jumping the Shark Fantastic

Jumping the Shark Fantastic
Directed by Malcolm Whittaker (Outside Eye - Jennifer Jamieson). Fringe World. PICA – Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts. Feb 1-4, 2017

Jumping the Shark Fantastic is an effort to discover what would constitute the best theatre ever.  An hour long presentation of ALL of the best ideas.

Presented by a dancing bear  (Malcolm Whittaker), we discover that Malcolm has surveyed a huge amount of people and will incorporate everyone’s version of what would be the best theatre show for them.  From free beer, salsa dancers, walls that implode, confetti guns and giant cats – this show contains a myriad of ideas that conflict, implode and explode in a furious and absurd show that had the audience intrigued and involved. What the audience want is “a theatrical spectacle that is impossible for the stage to hold.”

Lots of energy from the performers Zoe Hollyoak, Phoebe Sullivan, Haydon Sullivan and Brett Smith, who spend the show at running pace, with dozens of characters, dancing and quick changes galore. Mark Homer and Kevin Ng do their best to create a huge budget technical production on a tight budget.

This is a show that defies reviewing. A very theatrical audience adored this show, which reveals the futility of theatre – while being a wonderful celebration of what you can try.
