Movin’ Melvin Brown: A Man, a Magic, a Music!

Movin’ Melvin Brown: A Man, a Magic, a Music!
Adelaide Fringe Festival. Royal Croquet Club. 19 Februray-19 March, 2017.

The sound of pure soulful beauty rings out from behind a black curtain – then the source of that magical voice emerges in a bright, fiery suit, bringing the music of Sam Cooke to life…

Melvin Brown is on a mission of positivity, drawing on a multitude of musical and artistic facets to fight a winning battle against the spectre of racial prejudice – and as far as this reviewer is concerned, Melvin’s victory is assured, simply by way of his being as talented, as generous, as friendly a performer as you’re likely to see at this entire Fringe festival.

The man exudes an effortless feeling of charisma, confidence, and comfort. His storytelling and anecdotes are both funny and warm, with the power to connect to any audience, regardless of your background. He shares engrossing accounts of first love, separation, army life, marriage, and racism, but always with as much humour as seriousness. He also has one of the most infectious and delightful laughs you’ll ever hear!

Though his joking occasionally turns bluntly cheeky, this is but one of many delightful surprises in this show, some of which deserve not to be spoiled in a review – so get along and see Movin’ Melvin Brown for yourself. He delivers old-fashioned entertainment in the very best sense, and his performance should have the power to enrich and entertain all ages.
