Odd Socks

Odd Socks
The Cutting Room Floor / Fringe World. Directed by Gemma Hall. Flaming Locomotive, STC Engine Room, Northbridge, WA. 31 Jan - 4 Feb, 2017

This ‘Flaming Locomotive’ Fringe World venue is in a rehearsal room, downstairs at the State Theatre Centre. As the audience enter, crossing a corner of the stage, they encounter a young, unassuming man consuming a dinner of meat and vegetables.

As the play begins, we discover that ‘Charles’ is very neatly packing to move out - while learning Spanish. Charles, is a serious, safe accountant, who likes this by the book.

Into Charles’ very organised, very structured life, bursts pink-haired, free-spirit Mia, who has accidentally fled into the wrong apartment to escape a Tinder date gone wrong. She is a polar opposite to Charles, but these two develop an odd pairing and become the figurative odd socks of the title, although some literal odd socks pop into the show too.

Actor/Devisors George Ashforth and Megan Hollier have created beautifully realistic characters, who are equally frustrating and likeable. They have excellent rapport in a show that tells a fun story and has the audience invested in the journey.

The Cutting Room Floor has created a vibrant, engaging little show, that is a pleasure to watch.
