Old Actors Never Die - They Simply Lose the Plot

Old Actors Never Die - They Simply Lose the Plot
By Lynn Brittney. Tugun Theatre Co., Gold Coast Director: Cecile Campbell. Feb 8 - 24, 2018

This show is a complete contrast to Tugun’s last raunchy offering: not a dancing pole in sight!

Set in a stately home for retired entertainers, the scene is the tastefully decorated sitting room.

The plot involves a variety of former performers and the Russian Mafia and has a large cast of seasoned actors, too numerous to list all the performers.

As the three Mrs Sullivans (all ex-wives of the philandering Edmund Sullivan) Carmen Hill, Brenda Warren and Viviane Gian gave wonderful performances as they schemed to skim their alimony from their former husband, Peter Gray, who is on the run from the Russians and has turned up at the home seeking to blend in with the other residents including Jim Fury and Doug Williams with Darren Campbell as the no-nonsence Russian.

I found the production to be very static with many of the characters just sitting on the lounge for a large portion of the play. Tugun has a wide stage which, by using it to advantage, would greatly improve the production.
