The Point of Light

The Point of Light
By Amberly Cull and Greg Lavell. Casa Mondo, The Pleasure Garden, Fringe World, Northbridge WA. Feb 17-21 2016

The Point of Light was a fabulous choice for my final Fringe World show for 2016, a sweet and inspiring show from a supremely talented performer.

Performed by Amberly Cull and superbly accompanied by Greg Lavell, the pair also wrote this clever story. An original musical, it tells the tale of Gerda, who must embark on a dangerous journey in order to save her beloved husband Kai. Told mostly with puppets, performer Amberly charms her way through a huge range of distinctive characters, but the central character Gerda, not only looks like Amberly with her blonde hair, big eyes and long legs, but has Amberly's sunshiny demeanour and tangible warmth.

Perhaps best known as an improvisor, Amberly's quick wit was evident throughout the performance and although the audience was very mature, this show which is reminiscent of The Princess Bride, The Labyrinth and Disney Musicals would appeal to almost anyone.

A truly beautiful, clever and utterly charming show, this was a lovely way to finish Fringe World and I look forward to seeing more in this style.
