Pratchett Pieces Three

Pratchett Pieces Three
By Terry Pratchett. Unseen Theatre Company. Bakehouse Theatre (SA). Producer/Director: Pamela Munt. February 10-24, 2012

The Bakehouse Theatre is like a box of chocolates …and you never know what Pratchett you'll get.

In a quantum universe of endless possible parallel realities, we are fortunate to be in one which offers such a tasty sample of bite size Terry Pratchett flavoured fun.

5 candies are presented. A deathbed quantum philosophical verbal stoush with death himself, a witch trying to fight the perception that her intentions are intrinsically evil, death showing up at a disco in no mood for dancing, a saga of chicken endeavours, and a fantasy parody of academic bureaucracy. Director Pamela Munt weaves this all together by use of an incarned 'footnote' character of batman villain appearance as narrator.

A seasoned ensemble cast, many of whom have played their characters, or very similar, before, launch their way steadily through this hand picked selection of clever and off beat scenarios concocted from the mind of the prolific English writer Pratchett. Moments where the players particularly seemed to relax into indulging and enjoying the big broad possibilities of the characters on offer were also the most enjoyable for the audience. In particular, moustached co-director David Dyte's bit parts are a delight.

It is both an assured homage for Pratchett fans, and a varied showbag of introduction for Pratchett novice audiences.
