A Rhapsody in Red

A Rhapsody in Red
The Wicked Stage. Fringe World. Connections Night Club, Northbridge, WA. Jan 26 - 31, 2018

A Rhapsody in Red is a sweet, sexy and strange tribute to the 1960s, featuring three fabulous performers with amazing voices, top notch choreography and great warmth. Presented by The Wicked Stage and starring The CoverGirls, it is an instruction guide to finding a husband, and living life as a modern sixties girl.

We meet the gorgeously over-the-top Peggy-Sue (Caitlin Beresford-Ord), the seemingly sweet Mary-Jane (Sharon Kiely) and their second-best-friend (Just) Betty (Clare Moore) as they sing their way through the hits of the sixties, including ‘It’s My Party’, ‘Lipstick on Your Collar’, ‘Lollipop’ and ‘Babylove’. The costumes (and wigs) are stunning, the set and props are clever and cute.

The ladies have a wonderful rapport with each other, and quickly develop a lovely relationship with the audience. They all sing superbly and the choreography is very slick. The storyline, more complex than most cabarets, is funny and the characters endearing.

After interval there is a slight switch in style and some more stunning outfits. The show goes places you don’t expect it to go, and a great time is had by all.
If there is a return season, and I’d be surprised if there is not, grab your Mum or your girlfriends and get along. A top-calibre cabaret with broad appeal and great heart.
