What Did You Expect? gives you songs exactly as you would not expect. With a change of the genre, the style or the subtext, favourite tunes are turned on their head in unexpected ways.
Featuring a lovely Kiara Macri, supported by inimitable Ben Clarke on piano, opening night played to a packed and enthusiastic house. Featuring Bieber, Britney and a bawdy mermaid, the songs are twisted with style and beautifully performed by a likeable and affable Kiara Macri, who is also one of the best dressed performers at Fringe - step aside drag queens and burlesque beauties. Ben Clarke, is, as always a delight, maintaining his reputation as one of the most vocalist friendly accompanists in Perth.
The show has a lovely conversational feel, and there is opportunity for the audience to choose the song styles.
Kiera is the youngest of the three Macri sisters with Fringe World shows, with eldest sister Nicola fronting the comedy show You’re Welcome and middle sister Alysha starring in burlesque show La Potato Cabaret. People who manage to catch all three shows complete “Macri Bingo” and receive a badge!
What Did You Expect? is short, sweet and enjoyable, a relaxing addition to a night out.
