Good Omens Brings Squabbalogic Back to Sydney

Independent musical theatre company Squabbalogic (The Drowsy Chaperone, Man of La Mancha, Carrie The Musical) will present a one-night only reading of a brand new Australian musical featuring a stellar cast of music theatre’s finest performers.

According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch the world will end this Saturday. Not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture are a fussy angel and a fast-living demon — both of whom have lived amongst Earth's mortals since The Beginning and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle. They team up to circumvent the end of days but there is only one problem. Someone seems to have misplaced the Anti-Christ.

Following a twelve-month hiatus of performances that concluded with a production of The Original Grease, artistic director Jay James-Moody (currently in the cast of The Book of Mormon in Melbourne) is getting the band back together for this special presentation on Monday November 13, 2017.

Good Omens is based on the internationally best-selling supernatural comedy novel from fantasy masters Sir Terry Pratchett (Discworld) and Neil Gaiman (American Gods). The musical adaptation has an exciting eclectic original score and lyrics by Vicki Larnach and a wildly outrageous book by Jim Hare and Jay James-Moody.

This special reading will offer audiences an insight into the often secretive world of musical theatre development, presenting the current draft of the score and libretto for an audience for the very first time ahead of a staging workshop at a later date.

Good Omens will be brought to life via the talents of accomplished actors Anthony Abrakmanov, Ana Maria Belo, Paul Capsis, Nicholas Cradock, Blake Erickson, Jordan Hare, Nancye Hayes, Samson Hyland, Nat Jobe, Rob Johnson, Luke Joslin, Debora Krizak, Amy Lehpamer, Lauren McKenna, Lachlan O’Brien, Brett O’Neill, Barry Quin and Bella Thomas.

Artistic Director of Squabbalogic and co-librettist of Good Omens Jay James-Moody said “Squabbalogic has always been the vehicle to present new and interesting international work to local audiences. I’m beyond ecstatic to be taking the exciting and scary first steps in the development of a new Australian work that seems to cover every genre imaginable. Good Omens is full of eclectic characters in a sprawling apocalyptic comedy that has not been written with any restriction of scale or budget. But concerns of how to effectively stage the end of the world – flying mopeds and flaming Bentleys included – are for the future. Right now, we’re letting our imagination run free in adapting this classic fantasy novel for the stage and can’t wait to share our current draft with our friends and peers.”

This special developmental presentation is a unique opportunity for audiences to witness the beginnings of a new musical and participate in the creative process as the work’s first audience.

Good Omens has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.
