John Barrowman in Concert at QPAC

Sci-fi, television, film and musical theatre fans alike can spend an intimate evening of songs, stories and laughter with John Barrowman exclusively at Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC).

John Barrowman in Concert will be presented in QPAC’s Concert Hall on Saturday 21 September 2019. 

From West End leading man to time-travelling hero, John is the epitome of entertainment. Singer, dancer, actor, presenter and judge, he is considered a unique talent in the entertainment industry.

His most famous television role is that of the charming sci-fi hero Captain Jack Harkness in BBC’s Doctor Who. John’s character was so popular that he was given his own hugely successful spin-off series, Torchwood.

John is also known for his roles in American television drama including playing Dark Archer Malcolm Merlyn in five seasons of Arrow, (based on the Green Arrow comic books), Peter Williams in the Aaron Spelling series Titans for NBC, and starring in Darren Star’s Central Park West for CBS.

In addition, he has guest starred on ABC’s Desperate Housewives and ABC series Scandal. At the end of 2018, he was a contestant on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity…Get Me out of Here in the Australian rain forest where he survived all the way to the final day.

His film appearances include lead roles in The ProducersDe-Lovely and Megalodon: Shark Attack 3, and supporting roles inZero Dark Thirty and Vertigo Films’ All Stars. 

On stage, John’s musical theatre career has seen him star in many West End shows, including Anything GoesMiss Saigon,The Phantom Of The Opera, Sunset Boulevard and La Cage Aux Folles. He also reprised the role of Joe Gillies in Sunset Boulevard on Broadway.

Alongside his acting career, John’s many presenting roles have included hosting his own primetime Saturday night BBC1 entertainment show, Tonight’s The Night. He has also been a judge on BBC1’s Saturday night shows which search for new West End Stars.

In addition, he embarks on concert tours promoting his many albums including his self-titled John Barrowman, John’s third solo CD with Sony.

Born in Glasgow, where he spent his early years, John moved with his family to the United States and later studied Musical Theatre at the US International University in San Diego.

In HM The Queen’s Birthday Honours 2014, John was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to entertainment and to charity. Also, in 2014, he was one of the Queen’s Baton Bearers and performed the opening number of the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony.
