Shane Bourne for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in Perth and Brisbane

Shane Bourne will play the dastardly Baron Bomburst in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, replacing Alan Brough as the vindictive, pampered, self-cantered, and incredibly effeminate Baron for both the Perth and Brisbane seasons.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang opens at the Crown Theatre, Perth from September 4th 2013, then at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) from 19 November 2013, in the Lyric Theatre .

The show’s Australian producer Tim Lawson said he believes Shane will be perfect for the role of the Baron.

“Shane is a hugely talented actor, and many Australians will remember him for his comic roles in Hey Hey its Saturday and Thank God You’re Here along with his more serious roles in City Homicide and the ABC series MDA.

“We cast Shane because we knew his mix of acting skills would perfectly suit the role of Baron Bomburst. Shane is not only a great actor but also a great comedian and the role of the Baron lends itself to great comic timing. The character is really just a spoiled brat who refuses to grow up”.

Shane Bourne's most recent musical theatre appearance was in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum with Geoffrey Rush in Melbourne last yer.

“The company are sad to say goodbye to Alan who was fantastic in the role, but are excited to have a Shane on board who is sure to bring a new energy to the role”, said Mr Lawson.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bangis an action packed adventure telling the story of the magical flying car, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts and his two children Jemima and Jeremy, alongside Truly Scrumptious and Grandpa Potts, who are all trying to outwit the dastardly Baron Bomburst and the evil Child Catcher.

Directed by Roger Hodgman, choreographed by Dana Jolly and with musical direction by Peter Casey this stage adaption is bold, both cutting from and adding to the original. The Australian creative team and magnificent cast, lead by Rachael Beck and David Hobson, really bring the beloved characters including Chitty to life.
