Rockdale Goes Back Into The Woods

Rockdale Goes Back Into The Woods

Rockdale Musical Society’s current production, Into The Woods by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, will be presented at Rockdale Town Hall from Friday February 27 through to March 8, 2015, revisitig the Sondheim classic for the first time since ther amateur premiere production in 1994I wish... more than anything...

A childless baker and his wife must venture Into The Woods to break the curse placed upon them by their neighbour, The Witch. Her spell will be lifted once they can find the cow as white as milk, the cape as red as blood, the hair as yellow as corn, and the slipper as pure as gold.

Throughout the kingdom Rapunzel, Cinderella, Jack and even Little Red Riding Hood must too search the woods to find the prince; to sell the cow, to lift the spell; to go to the festival and be home before dark unsuspecting of the married couple looking to swindle them of their precious possessions.

Regardless of intentions good or bad, they all discover that getting what you want is not what you’d expect.

The 1986 Tony Award winning musical was recently adapted by Disney to the silver screen with Meryl Streep as the title character along side Johnny Depp, Chris Pine, Emily Blunt & Anna Kendrick.

There were 150 applications to audition for the show, which by far exceeded the director Kenney Ogilvie's expectations for attendance, resulting, he says, in ‘a stellar cast from community theatre's finest performers.’

Three cast members have previously played the operatic role of Christine in productions of The Phantom Of The Opera, with five cast members having already performed in Into The Woods.

Cast travel from as far north as Gosford and as far south as Port Kembla to rehearse & perform in the Rockdale production.
