White Family Steps in Time with CLOC's Mary Poppins

White Family Steps in Time with CLOC's Mary Poppins

Mary Poppins has delighted, entertained and enchanted generations of readers, movie audiences and theatregoers “in the most delightful way” with its tale of the magical nanny with her umbrella and bag of tricks.

When Melbourne’s CLOC Musical Theatre presents the Broadway musical adaptation of this magical tale in May, the show will be a real family affairor the White family.  Not only are husband and wife team Lynette and Chris co-directing the show, but Lynette is also choreographing and Chris is designing and painting the set.

As if that were not enough, son Johnathon (pictured with his parents) is one of the 38 strong cast, playing klutzy servant Robertson Ay, one of the characters not in the movie but added to the musical from the original Mary Poppins books.  Although tall and gangly Johnathon looks like a natural for the role, he was still put through the rigours of the audition process, just like everyone else who auditioned, only for him, he had to face his parents on the audition panel – a very daunting prospect, as Johnathon will readily admit.

This stage production includes all of the best loved classics from the film, including Chim Chim Cher-Ee, A Spoonful of Sugar, Jolly Holiday, Step in Time, Feed the Birds, Let’s Go Fly a Kite and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, as well as new songs like Practically Perfect and Anything Can Happen.

Believe in the magic of Mary Poppins and discover a world where anything can happen if you let it!

Mary Poppins runs from May 15-30 at the National Theatre in St Kilda for twelve performances, including three matinees.
