2015 Glugs Theatre Awards Winners

The 2015 Glugs Theatre Awards were presented on Monday 1 February 2016 at Sydney’s Castlereagh Boutique Hotel.

2016  marks the Glugs’ 50th anniversary of their first meeting. In 1966 a group of theatre lovers – critics, journalists, actors and theatre-goers – met weekly for lunch to discuss theatre and welcome international touring actors. Founding members included theatre critic Norman Kessell, Bill Fenn, JCW’s PR man John Love, and ABC producer Allan Kendall.

James Plays Epic for Adelaide Festival

STC's The Present Broadway Bound

Following its sold-out, critically acclaimed engagement in Sydney, Australia last August, The Present, Andrew Upton’s adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s first play, Platonov, will be presented on Broadway for a limited engagement in the early Winter of 2016.

With the Sydney Theatre Company all-Australian cast including Cate Blanchett and Richard Roxburgh, The Present will be directed by John Crowley. Set and costume design is by Alice Babidge with lighting design by Nick Schlieper. Stefan Gregory is Sound Designer and Composer.

Fringe Premiere for The Last Time I Saw Richard

Well known South Australian independent theatre company five.point.one will present a new Australian show at the 2016 Adelaide Fringe in mid-February. The Last Time I Saw Richard is one of only eight 2016 Fringe events to have secured an Adelaide Fringe Cultural Fund grant for the 2016 festival. Lesley Reed reports.

Archie Roach to Headline 2016 Desert Fringe

Port Augusta will get a taste of the Adelaide Fringe for the ninth annual Desert Fringe in March 2016, featuring a program of local and international talent, a twilight concert headlined by world renowned performer Archie Roach and a host of local artists including many talented Aboriginal performers.

With 19 artists over two days and a wide range of activities to suit all ages (many of them free), there’ll be no excuse to stay away from this year’s Desert Fringe.

2015 Sydney Theatre Awards

The Sydney Theatre Awards for 2015 were presented on January 18, 2016, at a gala ceremony at the Paddington RSL.

Best Mainstage production went to Belboir's Ivanov, Best Independent production was Sport For Jove's Of Mice and Men, while the award for Best Main Stage Musical production was taken out by Matilda, with the award for Best Independent Musical going to Blue Saint Productions' Violet at the Hayes Theatre Co.
