Barbu Electro Trad

Barbu Electro Trad
The Royal Croquet Club. The Panama Club. Adelaide Fringe Festival. Feb 14th-March 14th, 2016

A showcase of music, circus antics and eccentric characters make this an event not to be missed. Performed in a large tent within the Royal Croquet Club, enormous video screens either side of the performing space means there is not a bad seat in the house.

Heart stopping eclectic music gets you into the mood for a feast of antics highlighting strength, agility and bravery. Cirque Alfonse is a young circus company from Saint-Alphonse-Rodriguez in the province of Quebec; established in 2005, they bring with them a touch of home with picturesque footage of Quebec folklore displayed on screens. The troupe consists of many bearded men in briefs, who prove undoubtedly that beards have sex-appeal. Fearless female acrobats join them to exhibit incredible feats and match the men in their display of strength.

Awe-inspiring routines mixed with odd-ball humour make this a show like no other. Roller skating, hoop twirling, magic, acrobatics, juggling, golf club balancing all set to a thumping soundtrack. The ease with which they interact with the audience evokes a confidence and a belief that you are dealing with true professionals.

The controlled mayhem creates an atmosphere that is electric. The audience match the volume of the music in showing their appreciation. Never have I seen a company perform with such vigour and confidence.
