MUSE Repertory Season 2014

This year, the University of Sydney Musical Theatre Ensemble embarks on an ambitious season of firsts. Playing for two weeks at the King Street Theatre, the society will present Sondheim’s Anyone Can Whistle and the Australian debut of Schmidt and Jones’ 110 in the Shade from 15th-25th October, 2014.

Australian Premiere of Musical ’50s Sci-fi Movie Spoof

A musical send-up of ’50s sci-fi movies is descending upon Perth in September 2014.

Written by David Wechter and Bruce Kimmel, The Brain from Planet X makes its Australian debut at Phoenix Theatre, presented by Dark Psychic Productions.

In 1958, a brain and its two alien cohorts arrive on Earth with a plan to take over the San Fernando Valley – starting with a happy nuclear family. It’s the first step in their quest to destroy the family unit and take over the entire planet.

Little Mermaid for Engadine

Children in the past few years have been thrilled by The Little Mermaid movie, they have attended Little Mermaid birthday Parties, and gone to sleep clutching their Ariel Dolls. Now Engadine Musical Society is giving kids of all ages the opportunity to see the Disney Junior version of The Little Mermaid live on stage at the Sutherland School of Arts during August.

World Premiere for Mutts

IT will literally be a dog’s life for some in August 2014 as the World Premiere in W.A. of a new play gives an insight into the canine mind.

Written by Johnny Grim for ARENAarts at Belmont’s Latvian Centre Theatre, Mutts is a tale of nine mongrels who end up in the pound together.

They all share the same wish of being rescued before time runs out – but will they all be lucky?

Director Jane Sherwood was sent a copy of the script not long after Grim had finished writing it and immediately loved the piece.

Pinafore Set to Sail the High Cs at North Sydney

Pride and Prejudice On Perth Stage

THE TIMELESS love story from one of the most widely-read writers of all time takes to the Limelight Theatre stage in August 2014.

Adapted from the Jane Austen novel by Jon Jory, Pride and Prejudice features the wit and romance of the 1813 classic.

Elizabeth Bennet is a complex young woman who doesn’t think marriage is an urgent priority, despite her four sisters, overzealous matchmaking mother and a string of unsuitable suitors.

Twelve Angry Men for Richmond

Iconic play Twelve Angry Men, adapted by Sherman L Sergelfrom the teleplay by Reginald Rose, is Playhouse Players’ August 2014 production at the Richmond Theatrette (Vic).

The play, concerning the deliberations of the jury in a homicide trial, explores many techniques of consensus-building, and the difficulties encountered in the process, among a group of men whose range of personalities adds intensity and conflict.

Koorliny Arts Centre Announces 2015 Season

On Friday night, July 25, invited guests gathered at Kwinana's Koorliny Arts Centre (WA) for their 2015 launch.

The Arts Centre was decorated with canopies and bubbles and guests enjoyed canapés…and bubbles before moving to the main auditorium for the announcement of the Centre produced shows for next year.

Koorliny Arts Centre Manager Ryan Taafe hosted the announcement of the four musicals which will be produced in conjunction with the Kwinana Industries Council.

 

Dark New Take on Little Shop of Horrors at Beenleigh

What do you get if you combine a plant with a taste for human flesh, a hapless florist, catchy rock tunes, and a director with a flair for originality?

Answer: a dark and imaginative twist on a classic black comedy musical.

Tracey Hutley directs Phoenix Ensemble’s unique take on Little Shop of Horrors, which runs over five weekends at the boutique Pavilion Theatre (Beenleigh, Queensland) from 8 August, 2014.

A Brush with Picasso's Women

A FASCINATING insight into the wives and lovers of Pablo Picasso will emerge from the canvas during August 2014 as eight women share stories about their lives with the great artist.

Written by Brian McAvera and presented by Blak Yak Theatre at Chrissie Parrott Arts (Maylands, WA), Picasso’s Women is a collection of eight honest, brutal, erotic and humorous monologues that pull no punches.

The 2000 play allows the women to give their point of view and uncover their buried histories while relating their lives to Picasso’s art.
