Adelaide Cabaret Festival 2020 has been cancelled, following the South Australian Government’s declaration of a public health emergency, and ban on non-essential gatherings of 100 people or more at indoor premises including Adelaide Festival Centre. There are also travel bans in force which affect artists coming from interstate and overseas to South Australia. 

Morning Melodies to go on at Arts Centre Melbourne

Arts Centre Melbourne will start to broadcast upcoming Arts Centre Melbourne performances online where possible.

Mass Theatre Closures

New restrictions announced yesterday by the Prime Minister limit the number of people allowed to congregate indoors for non-essential activities indoor to 100 -  forcing almost all professional and amateur theatre companies to close their doors.

The restrictions could be in place for six months - more or less.

The limit of 100 includes all people in the building needed to service the performing arts activity.

Federal Cabinet is meeting Friday to consider even more stringent limits on public gatherings.

Victorian Opera Announces Tommy Cast

Victorian Opera is has announced the cast for its production of five-time Tony Award musical, The Who’s Tommy. Based on The Who’s legendary 1969 concept album Tommy, which sold over 20 million copies, the rock musical is set to supercharge Melbourne’s Palais Theatre from 14 – 22 August.

Opera Australia Cancels La Traviata - Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour 2020

Opera Australia has regretfully cancelled the upcoming Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour, La Traviata, in line with the government ban on static public gatherings of more than 500 people to try to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The season of La Traviata on Sydney Harbour was scheduled to run from Friday 27 March until Sunday 26 April at Mrs Macquarie’s Point.

Frozen - Full Cast Announced

As it approaches its Australian premiere in Sydney in July, the remainder of the performers who will join Jemma Rix (Elsa) and Courtney Monsma (Anna) in the Australian production of Disney’s Frozen have been announced.

Like all of you, we at Come From Away have been closely following the COVID-19 outbreak. The health, safety and well-being of our staff, artists, audiences and our community will always be paramount.

Following the Federal Government’s advice on Friday 13 March strongly advising against gatherings of more than 500 people to help contain the spread of the virus, the final performance of our season at the Comedy Theatre in Melbourne will be on Sunday 15 March at 6pm.

Large Performing Arts Centres Scaling Down

Theatre companies and producers large and small are closing down to abide by regulations banning gatherings of more than 500 people.

Opera Australia announced Sunday night that it is cancelling the rest of its Summer season including Handa's Opera on the harbour.

This includes all performances of Attila, Carmen and Great Opera Hits at the Sydney Opera House that were scheduled from Monday 16 through to Saturday 28 March.

Memorial event postponed.

The arts in Australia lost one of its most fervent champions with the passing of Tony Gould, AM on March 10, 2020.

The founding Director of the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), Tony was remembered by those who knew him well and worked with him as someone who was not only passionately supportive of the performing arts but also cared deeply for the people behind the art.
